NexaDesk
Operational matrix for NexaDesk Agent

Agent and device compatibility

Operating systems, Linux distributions, Windows Server, printers, copiers, firewalls, routers and devices monitored through native agent, gateway or network checks.

Compatibility levels

Native agent

Local metrics through the installed NexaDesk Agent service.

Gateway/SNMP

A gateway agent queries devices that cannot run an agent.

Ping/HTTP

Basic reachability or web response checks.

Needs validation

Theoretically suitable but model or firmware dependent.

Linux and hypervisors

The recommended method is a native systemd agent.

  • Debian 11, 12, 13: native agent recommended.
  • Ubuntu Server 20.04, 22.04, 24.04 LTS: native agent recommended.
  • Proxmox VE 7/8: agent on host; VM details as extension.
  • Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux 8/9: native agent.
  • CentOS Stream 8/9: validate before use.
  • OpenSUSE Leap and Fedora Server: needs validation.

Windows and Windows Server

The Windows agent runs as a service and requires administrator rights.

  • Windows 10/11 Pro: native agent.
  • Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025: native agent recommended.
  • Active Directory: check GPO, antivirus, firewall and Execution Policy.
  • Windows Home: testing only.

Printers and copiers

Printers are monitored through gateway/SNMP, HTTP or IPP.

  • HP, Canon, Ricoh, Kyocera, Brother, Epson, Xerox, Lexmark: basic status is usually possible.
  • Konica Minolta, Sharp, Toshiba: validate OIDs and firmware.
  • USB consumer printers: only through a PC gateway.

Firewalls, routers and network devices

Use ping, HTTPS, read-only SNMP or limited API access.

  • MikroTik, pfSense, OPNsense, Fortinet, Sophos, WatchGuard.
  • Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti UniFi, TP-Link Omada, DrayTek, Zyxel.
  • Use minimal permissions and never store admin passwords in payloads.

NAS, storage and appliances

Closed systems should be queried through SNMP/API.

  • Synology DSM: SNMP/API.
  • QNAP: SNMP/API.
  • TrueNAS: SNMP/API, native agent only after validation.
  • Dell iDRAC, HPE iLO, Lenovo XClarity: prefer out-of-band.
  • APC/Eaton UPS: SNMP or gateway.
Advanced values such as toner, counters, paper and hardware details depend heavily on model, firmware and enabled SNMP/API permissions.
